You can even see it in the western sky after sunset, after the sky darkens! Interestingly enough, a similar conjunction with the addition of Mars made this an extra stunning event when they launched the Piscean Age. This time they may well be harkening the long-awaited Aquarian Age.

Son Jupiter started to catch up to Father Saturn in Capricorn in December 2019, but they are taking a full year to finally connect. From our earthly vantage point, they will appear next to one another on both Sunday 20 December and Monday the Solstice 21 December 2020, but they will actually be some 456 million miles apart -another example of how perspective plays such a role in life. They haven’t been this “close” in space since 1225. If you have clear skies at night, I highly recommend seeing this landmark event.

The generational marker these two planets make is about a 12-year cycle, but what makes this year’s reunion special is called the Great Mutation, which signifies a change in the element in which they meet. The previous Great Mutation began in earth Capricorn back in January 1842, which coincided with the rise of the Industrial Age, and they ended their earth-bound cycle on 16 December this year within a half a degree of one another in the same sign it all began before Saturn popped into Aquarius. We have seen the harbingers of this new element in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.

This December 2020 portend of air is further deepened by Mercury’s three retrograde cycles in each of the three air signs in 2021: 30 January in Aquarius, 29 May in Gemini and 27 September in Libra. This will likely wreck-havoc and re-work communication and communication networks. Increased solar flares, cyber-hacking, tornadoes, hurricanes, transportation-oriented disruptions are all well indicated.

To further cement the airy focus for 2021, on 19 February 2021 the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will all be hanging out in the sign of rebellious, outcast insightful and observant Aquarius. I could go on with more of the breezy elements 2021 has in store for us all, but I don’t want to blow you away!

Seriously, in the midst of all of this air, we will have to find a way to keep our feet connected to Mother Earth. The beauty of the Aquarian archetype is to take the best of what came before as foundation (Saturn) to make something better for all (Uranus). Balancing earthly needs with social ideals so that the individual AND the collective benefit is what is required right now. The effects of 200 years extracting and manipulating earthly resources will shift to abstract cloud-based assets and off-planet mining. This is already happening with so many stock markets filled with tech stocks that have no physical worth, yet are valued in the billions in any currency as well as the hiccups of the cryptocurrencies as they continue to seek form -not to mention land for sale on the Moon and other planets. This is aided, of course by archetypal Uranus in form-seeking Taurus.

There is so much more here to un-pack, which I will do -stay tuned- as the year unfolds. While so many of us are hoping for a new year to forget the old, we will instead be reviewing and re-thinking so many things on so many levels. Maybe one of the “gifts” of the pandemic was to have the world slow from the chaotically frenzied pace in which so many of us were overwhelmingly mired? On 26 Saturday December 2020, Erin Sullivan, Merrylin LeBlanc, Daniel Fiverson and I will be speaking on the upcoming 2021. We usually do this live here in Santa Fe, but due to COVID, we will be doing this live on Zoom. https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4838780 In addition to being able to hear our varied perspectives on the upcoming year, attendees will be able to ask questions at the end of our respective presentations. Won’t be available on the 26th? No problem, you will have the recording to listen to as often as you like.

The Winter Solstice is a time of recognizing that the darkness can only last so long and the light will return. Take the time you need to connect with yourself and those you love. If you have the means, be generous with charities and local businesses burdened by either having to deal with too much or too little business. Rekindle the light of Love in your hearth and in your heart. Blessings to you all who are enduring so much and who have lost so much this year. May we remember inner strength and share compassion,

Michael
