My apologies for being absent for a bit. Life has become a very full experience requiring a bit more time and attention than usual. How is life treating you?
Aretha Franklin’s classic song Chain of Fools (https://youtu.be/5C4FnlftQt4) comes to my mind when I consider the current astrological situation. While many consider her song was about a cheating lover, there is a much deeper meaning here. Don Covay wrote the song with a different intention. According to his son Tony, “My father wrote this song about the cycle of property and slavery,” he told Songfacts. “The bicycle chain gave him the hook. He said he had to change the words to fit the public.” (https://www.songfacts.com/facts/aretha-franklin/chain-of-fools).
Either metaphor helps to understand that we are all cogs in the wheel of a much larger system. Like all chains, cogs and wheels, there are times when they break down – maybe it is a simple edge that skips every so often, or maybe it is that “clunk” that brings the whole thing to a jarring, teeth shattering stop. We are all gaining awareness of how these systems discriminate and may be fully broken based upon your sex, color, race, religion, gender, age.
Consider the width and breadth of what many of our brothers and sisters around the world are enduring right now. We see the machinery isn’t working for the majority of us when we see the following: the horrific humanitarian war in Ukraine, devastating fires and droughts -climate change, massive emigrations throughout the world, countless thousands find themselves unable to afford mortgage -let alone rent- and they are working, the SCOTUS Roe vs. Wade review, police continuing to murder people of color when pulled over for “routine issues” in a highly disproportionate amount, the .00001% richer than all of the rest of us put together -using said resources to jettison into space rather than reward all of the people “who made it possible” – and the list goes on.
Whew, right? I would imagine that you, personally, may also be in the midst of massive changes and revelatory insights in your life that may be affected by some of the things stated above and/or any of the other significant changes taking place here on Earth. While some of us perceive being a piece of the chain or a cog in the wheel as disempowering to their individuality, astrology is one of those unusual tools that actually identifies the gifts of both our inherent individuality and the part we play for the collective – a sort of schematic map that helps us understand how your machine works.
Most people seek astrological readings during challenging times in their lives -especially when a new paradigm or way of being is making the status quo difficult to maintain, when the machine breaks down. Zodiacal insights hopefully affirm the sense you already have about things, but sometimes can awaken you to whole new ways to approach life, relationships and work. Maybe the machinery wasn’t working for you because you weren’t using your type of machinery?
Those of you with a strong Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarian (fixed) chart focus are probably feeling things you never thought you would while experiencing possible threats to your regular way of doing and being reflected by the Sun, emotions and feelings the Moon, communication and movement Mercury, your values and relationships through Venus, your desires and drives represented by Mars, the ways you expand and exaggerate by Jupiter and the way you mature, face your duties and authority figures with Saturn.
During this time between the solar and lunar eclipses is a good time to do some life review. What are the things you haven’t wanted to face? What are the unresolved situations and relationships in your life? What have you swept under the rug in an attempt to ignore or dissociate? Spend some time writing, reflecting, creating and nourishing yourself as much as you are able. Surrender -as much as you can- to the larger forces at work. Help others as you have the means and ability. Greater awareness gives you more resources with which to act using choice rather than react.
